Did your letter mention that the shunning policy is becoming more and more famiar to the general public, thanks in part to the Royal Commission?

The image of a 'worldly' lawyer, badgering one of the holy GB, with the fact that his is a CAPTIVE ORGANIZATION, is forever burned in my memory.

Now, people are finally seeing the connection between the abuse, two-witness rules, victim indimidation, abuser protection...made all the worse by fear of leaving the Org and getting shunned. I'm hoping that any letter sent to him would spell out this 'interconnectedness' very plainly. Otherwise I'm afraid he just wouldn't get it.

not saying i agree with all things buzzard, but he puts forth a valiant effort to get these jws to think outside the (watchtower) box.

i knew apostasy was a serious concern for the org, but until i watched this video, i had no idea how afraid they actually were.

all this guy wants is to do is not turn in his fs hours and immediately they (elders) set about drilling him about who are what influenced his decision, as if he was incapable of making his own (which as the elders confirm, in the org is highly discouraged).

they are convinced he has been communicating with apostates or visiting apostate web sites.

I doubt it. First of all the wts believes that God is leading them and backing them up.

I'll have to admit, I'm in agreement with Fisherdude on that specific point, that they (WTS) leave it 'in Jah's hands.' I'm thinking that this belief prevails, from the average publisher, all the way up to the GB. That might explain, to some extent, the lack of preparation demonstrated by the various elders and branch personnel who testified at the Australian RC. Having said all that, there must be someone embedded in the Org, perhaps a group of legal advisors, or one of the more educated GB members, who realize that some 'damage control' is needed. Hence, they pull the strings and crank out the anti-apostate literature & broadcasts. That's just my theory, based partly on similar examples throughout history: other religions, totalitarian governments, ect.

Ok, this is related, and might be worthy of it's own thread. But, what if...for example, a JW wife has her child baptised, without first consulting with the non-JW husband?

Let's say the non-JW guy is just that...a 'never was' or will be type of 'worldly' guy (not DF'd or DA'd). Could a wife get away with such a stunt, knowing full well that he's still head-of-houshold? And if he were DF/DA'd, would that have an effect?

Seems to me he could go straight to the elders and tell them to get this annulled or else. The 'or else' could be the threat of legal action against the elder...or perhaps something more brazen (just leave it at that). Any suggestions?

Simon, what seems to elude you is the big picture, which is: that one of your holy, Jehovah-channeling governing body 'popes' was summoned by the Australian government. He appeared before thousands in a live broadcast, squirming, blithering, glancing at his watch, licking his lips (dry mouth is a physical sign of lying), and overall trying to defend the indefensible. He tells justice McClellan that he is there "to assist the Royal Commission." Bu11shite!! He was SUMMONED.

Pope Francis, on the other hand, was at least smart enough to admit, soon after his appointment, that he had a problem on his hands. He is now willingly cooperating with authorities to hold the abusing priests accountable, and to enact preventive reforms to keep these sickos away from kids.

I'm neither a Catholic nor a Jehovah's witness, though if I had to choose one over the other, as an outsider, it wouldn't be a hard choice.

That's right. It reminds one of Stalin's purges, or of Hitler's brutal reign over his own officer corps.

Using of Nazi analogy, I wonder if the GB will have their own 'Operation Valkyrie' against one of the more outspoken members. Also, I guess the Royal Commission was 'D-day,' in terms of turning the tide against the Org. Now they're on the run, playing damage control. Nowhere to run to, baby, nowhere to hide.

even though i'm no longer mentally a jw (i still technically am) i do recognize that there are some benefits to being raised one.

for example, the first (and only so far) wordly guy i was involved with had to smoke weed every day and got drunk all the time and that was his idea of fun.

i couldn't help but feel bad for him.

Right, but the organization, as run by the Governing Body, IS judgemental and critical. The elders are a direct product of this 'leadership,' hence they must become judgemental and critical. That can breed a mentality of distrust and gossip among the 'flock,' hence making THEM judgemental and critical.

But yeah, I've been one-on-one with JWs, during vacations, outings, sport events & such, where they've unplugged from the Borg, and I've found some genuinely decent people, once they let their defenses down.

Having the strength to take a stand for something comes first to mind.

Uh yeah, just as long as taking that stand does not put you at odds with the elders.
